Everyone wants chocolate for breakfast at Easter – enter the Easter Egg cereal bowl! We’ve never tried this before so might give it a go this year….
In places like Canada, the Easter Bunny brings Easter Baskets instead of chocolate eggs. Usually they are full of fun springtime treats, such as bubbles, bunny snacks, crafts and things you can use in the spring, such as wellies, sunglasses, seeds to plant, a watering can, etc. It’s a bit like Christmas (but cheaper!!). This year you could fill them with things to keep the kids occupied during lockdown – sticker books, activity books, mini science kits and of course, an Easter Egg.
This Easter will be one to remember, with all the social isolating we’re having to do. Help others in your family remember it for years to come by making a time capsule. You could include newspaper clippings, photos of fun memories with the kids indoors, poems or pictures the children have written, a rainbow they have coloured, recipes you enjoyed during this time, anecdotes about the fight to buy toilet roll…. anything you like!
Your favourite egg hunt might be cancelled, but you can set one up at home instead.
If you’re using real eggs – and I would definitely recommend plastic ones instead – then outdoors is the way to go! This is fun for the whole family, and you can make it tricker by doing a three-legged race, adding blindfolds, etc. You can buy egg and spoon race kits, but they’re easy to set up yourself too.
Simple options include bunny-shaped biscuits, cereal and chocolate nests and buns with Easter sprinkles, or you could try a No Bake Mini Eggs cheesecake – just be careful of the mini eggs with little ones and either crush them or swap for a different chocolate treat.
You can find the cheesecake recipe here.
You can have loads of fun adding crafty bits and bobs to some hard boiled eggs, or use dye to create some fancy colours. Here are some ideas you might like to try.
From egg tossing to bunny racing, egg rolling and a glow in the dark egg hunt, this blog is full of fun Easter games that you can play together as a family at home.
Sprinkle some jelly beans (or Smarties, sprinkles or small bright sweets) in the garden with the kids before they go to bed, then replace them with lollipops for a sweet Easter morning surprise!
Print out some bunny ears for everyone – or even better, ask the kids to make some – stick them onto a headband and take an Easter photo.
