I hope you have a fantastic Half Term!! Hayley x
Fun in the Woods!
The fabulous Wild Rumpus are putting on family sessions in The Whirligig Woods every day over half term and they sound AMAZING!!
Choose from spooky trails to puppetry, sketching, building a terrarium and more! they’re all being held in the absolutely gorgeous surroundings of Whirligis Woods in Scholar Green and you don’t need any experience at all to join in. They’re also showing screenings of The Corpse Bride and The Blair Witch Project (if you dare watch that in the woods!!).
Wild Rumpus CIC is a social enterprise producing large scale outdoor arts events, most often in wild natural landscapes. They believe that when audiences engage together in the highest quality arts in the great outdoors, something quite amazing can happen – and it usually does!
Check out their daily activities and book, here.
Knutsford Pumpkin Path
Knutsford Pumpkin Path is back!!
The event has been moved to Saturday 30th October in 2021 instead of taking place on Halloween evening itself. Organisers at Knutsford Town Council are bringing back all the glory including live on-street singing from Knutsford Beats and dancing entertainment from Fuschia School of Dance, themed Halloween characters, exciting scenes in Wallwood and of course the pumpkin path trail!
Head over to their Facebook Page for more info.
Pumpkin Picking
Pumpkin Picking has become super popular over the last few years, and we’re lucky to have some fantastic pumpkin patches on our doorstep!
If you fancy a full day out, head over to the all singing Pumpkin Festival at Cockfields Farm – as well as Pumpkin picking/carving, there’s a disco, fairground carousel, all the usual farm fun and so much more!
To enjoy the beautiful sights and sounds of a working fam in Autumn, head over to The Dunham Pumpkin Patch – the Hewitt family have been growing pumpkins for over 30 years but this is second year that the family have welcomed guests to pick their perfect pumpkin! There’s a woodfired pizza oven and juice pressed fresh from the farm’s apple orchards for you to enjoy after all your exertions!
If you’ve left it late to book anything, don’t panic!! The fabulous people over at Dunham Massey Pumpkin Path are keeping their Pumpkin Patch drop in – you don’t need to book, just turn up and get picking!! They’re also offering hot food, speciality ice cream (think spiced pumpkin and pumpkin pie flavours!!) as well as hot drinks.

Lantern Parade through the Woods!
See the woods in a whole new light at BeWILDerwood’s most enchanting event of the year, The Glorious Glowing Lantern Parade, is coming to the WILD woods in Cheshire this October half term!
Navigate your way through the beautifully lit twilight woodland and keep a look out for hints of the BeWILDerwood characters peering out to say ‘yoo-hoo!’ along the way. But don’t worry if you aren’t the bravest Boggle – it’s spooky not scary!
Free events
We know how expensive entertaining a family can be during the holidays – but don’t worry, there’s lots of free (or very cheap!) events happening in and around Cheshire for us to enjoy!
If you’re a National Trust Member, most of our local properties have Halloween Trails which are either free, or cost a pound or 2 for the map (non members will need to pay entry). There are also Halloween/Autumn Trails at other local beauty spots including Brereton Heath and Teggs Nose which, again, cost just a couple of quid for the trail sheet, and of course Knutsford Pumpkin Path has returned! We’ve got details of them all in the Full Guide – Click here.
Why not try out a gorgeous Half Term activity for children in the beautiful Gawsworth Village?!
Follow the scarecrow trail around the village – complete the trail, solve the puzzles and be entered int a prize draw to win a fantastic voucher.
Combine with a play in the lovely Gawsortth Park, collect some sticks from Maggoty Woods and feed the ducks by the awe inspiring St James’ Church for a very cheap but great fun Autumn day out in the fresh air! If the weather’s kind you could take picnic to eat on the large grassy area in the park or, if you’re feeling flush, treat yourselves to lunch at the Harrington Arms who are doing a spooky meal for children – A ‘Mummy’ dog, spooky cupcake and a mocktail!! Available from 22nd October to 31st October 2021. Click here for more info.
Our local libraries are running some fantastic Half Term events as well (mainly FREE but most need to be booked) – from Pumpkin Hunts at Bollington Library, to Junk Modelling at Sandbach Library, daily events at Wilmslow library and more – head over to our Full Guide for all the Details (click here).
