Heritage Open Days give you the chance to visit new places and try new things all for FREE!
This year’s event runs from 6-15 September 2024, and we’ve pulled together a few family friendly events happening in Cheshire.

On Thursday 12 September meet at 1730 for this family friendly spooky tour for children under 12 accompanied by an adult.

Family-Friendly Painting: Horse from History
Saturday 14 September:1100-1200
A free paint-along suitable for all the family. Join local artist David Jewkes to paint a historic horse from Crewe’s past! Choose from one of two different poster designs to customise- change the name, colour, and even personality of your horse!

Behind the Scenes Tours: The Lyceum Theatre
8th September
Go behind-the-scenes at Cheshire’s historic theatre. You’ll explore the Grade II listed auditorium and go backstage to see areas normally only open to performers!

The Anson Engine Museum Open Day
Saturday 14 September: 10am – 4pm
Visit for free during Saturday the 14th September for a local history experience.
– Travel back in time to Poynton of circa 1900 and admire it from above with the large diorama replica.
– Learn about the town’s vast coal mining history, the first house lit by electricity and meet the oldest surviving engine in the world.
– View engines from Mirrlees of Hazel Grove, hearing their association with the famed inventor of the diesel engine, Dr Rudolf Diesel.
– See engines that worked at Adlington Hall, Barlow Fold, Brookfield Cinema and admire the largest steam engine in Cheshire, which originally powered a Hazel Grove textile mill.
