Discover Tree Climbing

Discover Tree Climbing arose from the need for tree climbing experiences in the North of England. Co-director Neil was looking for somewhere to learn tree climbing but there was nowhere available locally, so after going further afield to learn the techniques, he is bringing it back home and making it available to you. Terry jumped at the chance to put his knowledge of trees and climbing techniques gained from years as an arborist to use in a socially conscious and exiting new way.
Neil has 25 years’ experience as a teacher, he has been running outdoor and environmental education events with the Wildlife Trust since 2010 and loves climbing trees in his spare time.
Co-director Terry has been working as an arborist since 2002 and has a passion for all things tree. His office space is the tree-tops of North West England and he would like nothing more than for you to share the experience of looking at the World from the crown of a tree.

For more information and to book a session, get in touch with Neil and Terry by any of the following methods, they’d love to hear from you!

Enjoy Charles Brocklehurst’s informal garden as it comes alive in spring; snowdrops, narcissi and cyclamen lead the way, and are soon followed by the vibrant colour of rhododendrons, magnolias, and azaleas. The walled garden has been restored in line with Brocklehurst’s vision, and now the white perennial borders sing out in summer. On warm days, enjoy following the hare trail through the woods, followed by a picnic. Autumn provides a great opportunity for invigorating walks around the garden and surrounding parkland.

Little Moreton Hall, Congleton

Seeing the tumbling architecture of Little Moreton Hall for the first time, engineers in 1990 could not believe their eyes. Fortunately this timber-framed building, curled around with a scenic moat, has defied logic for over 500 years.

Nestled at the back of the hall is the manicured knot garden.  You’ll also find herbs and vegetables that the Tudors would have used for their cooking and medicines. We use seasonal produce from the garden in Mrs Dale’s Tea Room and The Little Tea Room.

Family friendly with lots of space for picnics.

Great place for a family walk with stunning views over the water, trees to climb, clearings to explore and picnic benches dotted around. There’s an abundance of wild flowers and nature to spot.

There’s a van selling hot and cold drinks and snacks on the road side which is there daily.

It’s only a few minutes walk into lovely Lymm Village from the Dam so you can make a real day of it – you can also make your walk longer by taking in the Bridgewater Canal Path and Trans Pennine Trail.

There’s a free car park at the Dam – its fairly small  but there’s road parking nearby if the car park is full.

Macclesfield Forest

Macclesfield Forest is a working forest located in the east of Cheshire close to Macclesfield and Langley and Wildboarclough Villages. The forest has four reservoirs and both of the highest points in Cheshire are close by making for great walks with stunning views.

Being a forest many areas aren’t ideal for pushchairs and slings would be your best bet if the kids are small enough. The route round the reservoir near the Leather Smithy pub is often mentioned as being pretty buggy friendly. Alternatively, pick up a map from the information shelter – the brown route around Ridgegate Reservoir is accessible with pushchairs as is the small loop of the yellow route opposite the ranger station.
