When we were first offered a free edition of The Week Junior to see what we thought, I initially declined – the Mini Mumblers are only 3, 4 and 6 and I thought they were perhaps a little too young to real enjoy it. On reflection however, I thought I’d give my 6 year old a go and see how she got on. I’m so pleased I did as she absolutely LOVED it!! She sat and read it cover to cover, taking breaks to excitedly impart the new knowledge she was discovering, such as whether dinosaurs were warm or cold blooded (SPOILER- experts now think they were warm blooded, which really surprised me!), and to tell me lots of interesting facts about different countries, which she found in the brilliant ‘‘Around the World’ Section. She did need a bit of help with some of the words and phrases, but it was a great opportunity for me to sit and talk to her about current events in a fun, engaging way and I really enjoyed seeing her many ‘light bulb’ moments. We also had a great time doing the puzzles together, in particular the crossword, which I thought had been pitched at a perfect level for the target audience – my daughter was able to get a couple by herself, she needed a few clues for most of the answers and there were a couple that I had to cheat on (!!). She took the magazine to bed with her for a week, and we’ve now subscribed so she gets a new edition each week! It’s something she really looks forward to, and I love the fact that she’s really taking an interest in getting to know more about what’s happening in the world.
Each edition is a round-up of what’s been going on in the world & is packed with news and events as well as nature, science, history, books, sport, technology, films, recipes, puzzles, quizzes, ideas on things to make and do and more. It’s written in a way to help kids that age engage & understand and it covers all of the main news events but also less mainstream stories, that they might not otherwise hear about.
The Week Junior Summer of Reading will spark their natural curiosity and fill their summer with irresistible reading and activities.
There is something for every child in each edition. It brings learning to life with news, stories and world events all carefully explained for children. Both my 8 yo and my 11 yo really enjoyed the whole thing, taking different key points from each article.
Every page is written and designed by TWJ experts to spark their natural curiosity, and encourage them to explore further. The world needs big ideas – and The Week Junior can empower your children to make a difference. It starts with sparking a love of reading, learning – and wanting to know more.
This summer, The Week Junior are also encouraging children to choose any three books and write a short review of each books, submitting it using their online entry form.
