We’re a private postnatal midwifery service, set up by myself Julie, a midwife of 20 years experience. We provide that extra personalised care, time and support following the birth of your baby in the comfort of your own home in the first 6 weeks following birth.
Why was Koru Set up?
I’ve have seen the increase in number of babies being born and reduction in NHS resources. I saw this first hand after the birth of my beautiful granddaughter by Caesarean Section. There was one midwife home visit and a 2nd midwife appointment at the local hospital, (travelling after major abdominal surgery whilst carrying a heavy awkward car seat and a changing bag packed with a months supplies is a feat unto itself) before mum and baby were discharged. Luckily I managed to get time off work myself to love every second of helping out but not all new parents have the luxury of having a close family and friend support network to call on 24/7.
I have seen the immense benefit of additional one to one time. The ability for a midwife to build a trusting relationship and meet families’ individual needs makes such a difference.
What Experience Can you Bring?
After completing my midwifery degree, I have been lucky enough to work with some of the best in many different areas and hospitals from low risk birth centres to high dependency care, inpatient wards and neonatal units to community, private maternity care at the Portland Hospital for Women and Children in London to work overseas with military families. I pride myself in maintaining high standards, continuous personal development, training and skills.
What does Koru Mean?
One of the most important decisions was naming my venture but after a suggestion from one of my lovely mummies I had the pleasure of looking after, there was no competition. Koru originates from New Zealand and is the Mãori symbol for New Life, New Beginnings, Growth, Peace and Harmony. Perfect description of the supported transition into confident, empowered parenthood.
Why Choose a Private Midwife?
There are lots of different services available after having a baby but each have their own specialities. Many work perfectly in conjunction with each other but due to the specific training, qualifications and regulations, a qualified midwife is the professional to be able to provide total care, including medical advice alongside physical, emotional and practical support .
What Areas do you Cover?
I am based in Knutsford, Cheshire but cover an approximate 15 mile radius, which includes areas from Manchester to Crewe, Warrington to Macclesfield and everywhere inbetween.
