There is so much more to World Book Day than frantically cobbling together a fancy dress outfit for the kids to wear to school! It’s a fantastic initiative, the main purpose of which is to to provide every child and young person in the country with a book of their own. In the UK world book day 2021 will be held on 4th March.
This WBD, 15 million £1 book tokens will be given to children and young people across the UK and Ireland. All you have to do is take your voucher to your local bookshop and swap it for one of the TWELVE exclusive, new and completely free World Book Day books. If you have another favourite in mind, you can use your token to get £1 off any full price book instead (the individual booksellers will decide if they’re able to offer this option so please check with them).
Those children attending a childcare setting can still receive their book tokens that way (please speak to the childcare setting) whilst those who aren’t can receive a digital version that can be printed at home or shown to booksellers on a phone. You can download your token below –
You can use your £1 Book Token from Thursday 18 February – 28 March 2021. To ensure you have enough time to use the token, participating bookshops will honour tokens beyond the 28 March, whilst stocks last. Each retailer will decide whether they are able to offer £1 off other children’s titles.
You can find your local participating bookshop by entering your postcode here.
Parents in our Facebook Chat Group often ask for recommendations for books to read with there children. World Book Day has put together lists of the nation’s favourite books, as voted for by you. They’re spilt into category and age group so you can easily find the type you’re looking for – click here to take a look.
Last but not least – a bit of fancy dress inspiration!! If you want to have a go at creating your own costume but are drawing a blank, Book Aid International have put together a load of outfit ideas complete with how-to guides and even videos!! Click here to take a look. The guides are free to use but the charity suggests making a donation of £1.
