One of the great things about running Mumbler is that sometimes – just sometimes – I get to try out really cool stuff to see whether I like it and will give it the Mumbler seal of approval. Last Summer I was gifted a set of car shades by Car Shades UK to road test (!!!) and road test I did – with a three week family holiday to Cornwall. Here’s what I thought……and if you like what you see, scroll down for the EXCLUSIVE MUMBLER DISCOUNT CODE!!!
The shades arrived really quickly (and there’s FREE UK delivery) in unfussy packaging meaning they were easy to extract -I didn’t have to spend hours just trying to get them out of the box. When I excitedly announced to Mr Mumbler I’d bagged us some posh car shades I was expecting a bit of kudos to be honest – instead I got an eye roll and a 3 minute moan about how the kids always just pull them off, you can’t open the window with them on and they’ll be a faff to fit. Ever the optimist is our Mr Mumbler!!!
Luckily for me, he was wrong, wrong wrong – and in some bizarre twilight moment, he admitted as much when he returned after ten minutes of fitting them and announced ‘actually they just clip on and you can open the window. They look pretty good. The kids might still pull them off though’. I’m taking that as a win.
The shades are tailor made for each model of car so fit perfectly. Each pack contains shades for all of the back windows (even those small fiddly pointless ones, although Mr Mumbler for some reason didn’t fit those…..), and the rear ones in the boot. They’re super easy to fit – fitting between the window seal and frame – and equally easy to remove should you want to. They’re in a different league to the cheap, flimsy pop on shades my children seem to take delight in ripping off then stamping on. Even the notoriously bullish Baby Mumbler (affectionally called Wreck it Rory for his unrivalled ability to somehow destroy EVERYTHING) hasn’t yet managed to pull them off (and believe me, he’s tried……)
I was genuinely impressed with the shades – and more to the point, so was the really-hard-to-please Mr Mumbler. They have UV protection and reduce light into the cabin by 72%, protecting those precious eyes in the back and significantly reducing heat. What clinched it for me was that you can open the window with them in place – meaning you don’t have to choose between protecting your children from the sun’s rays., and having a nice cool breeze – you can have both!! They’re a super, cost effective alternative to window tinted with the added bonuses that they stop flies, wasps etc flying in (much to Baby Mumbler’s delight after his recent first run in with a wasp has left him VERY wary of anything that flies), as well as anything flying out – so the books, toys and everything else you try to keep them entertained with on car journeys can’t be flung out of the window when they become surplus to requirements. They’re made right here in the UK and have recently won an award for being Mother & Baby’s Best Travel Accessory 2022.
They’re a great buy and I have no hesitation in giving them the Mumbler Seal of Approval.

We were gifted a full car pack of car shades for the purpose of this review – I promise however that we really did like and rate the shades and the review is an honest one
