Comedian and TV personality Bobby Davro, X Factor finalist Amelia Lily and Cheshire’s best-loved panto dame Malcolm Lord will head up this year’s Christmas family pantomime, which opens in Crewe from Friday December 10 – Sunday January 2, with Davro appearing in his 43rd pantomime as Muddles – best friend to the Princess; singer and television personality Amelia as the Sleeping Beauty Aurora and Malcolm Lord as Queen Volumptua.
All three are excited to be returning to the stage following a very unsettling 18 months break.
Amelia said: “I actually felt quite emotional when I stepped on to the stage and looked out into the auditorium when we first visited Crewe for the pantomime launch back in September. I remembered just how beautiful the theatre was from when I starred in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, but to think this is me returning to work in theatre and that Crewe will be my home for over a month this Christmas, was overwhelming and I’m just so grateful.”
Malcolm Lord returns for his fifth Christmas season in Crewe. No stranger to pantomime, this will be his 33rd panto after appearing in several versions of the classic panto tales over the years – many of which were alongside the legendary John Inman. His last theatre appearance was in Peter Pan in 2019. He said: “It’s great to be back, I love the audiences here, they are so welcoming. The last time I was in theatre was here in Crewe with the wonderful Cannon and Ball.”
Bobby Davro spoke fondly of the comedy duo, who have appeared in the town for the past few years. “Bobby was an incredible entertainer, a very funny man who will be greatly missed. I am very aware of just how loved the pair have been here in Crewe over the years and I hope I can bring just as much laughter as ‘Bobby number 2’. If there were three words I would bring to use to describe Sleeping Beauty this year it would be ‘Fun, Laughter and Normality’ as laughter surely is the best medicine and we all surely need some of that!”
Sleeping Beauty is produced by the world’s biggest pantomime producer, Crossroads Pantomimes. Lyceum Theatre Director, Adam Knight, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Crossroads Pantomimes to bring the magic of pantomime back to Crewe this Christmas. With a stellar cast to celebrate the return of live performances with your family and friends, we can’t wait to welcome you back for this year’s bigger, better and brighter production of Cheshire’s favourite family pantomime, Sleeping Beauty!”
