Keeping the kids entertained for six weeks can get expensive. So, with that in mind, we’ve pulled together TEN events taking place in and around East Cheshire this summer that are free or at least very low cost. Enjoy!!
1.Congleton Play Day – 15th August 2023
A free event in Congleton town centre – games, activities, crafts and lots more fun! Hosted by Congleton Community Projects and the town council.
2. Come and Create Sessona at the Silk Museum, Macclesfield – Saturdays until 2nd September 2023 1 pm – 4 pm
Every Saturday afternoon during the Summer, the Silk Museum will be exploring a different art form linked to their collections. There will be weaving, printing, painting, sculpting and lots more!
The sessions are free, drop-in and open to everyone.
3. Lego Club at Alderley Edge Library – Thursdays from 3pm and Saturday mornings
Drop into the library to rustle up some lego creations! Free.
4. National Play Day at Queens Park, Crewe – 3rd August 2023 11am – 3pm
Family Fun Day. FREE. Suitable for all ages.
Spend the day in Queens Park for a whole host of fun for all the family. Circus skills, bubbles, story-telling and more! Make a wildflower seed bomb with the Cheshire Wildlife Trust. No need to book; just turn up!
5. STEM Taster Sessions at Macclesfield Library – 3rd August 2023
Learn how to code a mini robot ball, play with a Lego Robot or design your own piece of scratch. FREE.
6. Family Fest Knutsford – 5th August 2023
Details TBC at time of writing, but the day will include a visit from Buzz Lightyear and Minnie Mouse, facepainting, hair braiding, storytelling, arts and crafts, sports and a party.
7. The Little Mermaid at Sandbach Town Hall – 15th August 2023 10:00 am and 14:00 showings
Free but booking is required.
8. Digital Face Painting and Colouring-in at Wilmslow Library – 31st July 2023 3-4pm
Get creative with digital face painting and bring your colouring to life with augmented reality. Free, and no need to book.
9. The Great Frogtastics Invention Trail, Stockport – 21st July until the end of September 2023
Free and fun art trail of 19 frog sculptures dotted around Stockport town centre.
10. Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler Exhibition at The Lowry – starts 22nd July and continues throughout 2023
Free, family-friendly exhibition at The Lowry featuring Julia Donaldson’s notebooks containing the ideas behind her stories and examples of Axel Scheffler’s artwork. Children can also get creative by writing their own stories, drawing illustrations, dressing up, and playing games.
